Parent Partnership and Disagreement Resolution

Parent Partnership

Supportive Parents provides the Parent Partnership Service for North Somerset. This service is confidential and provides support to parents of children with special educational needs.

We offer information and support by means of a telephone information and support line, face-to-face support at meetings and help with written information, to enable parents to play a more active and informed role in their child’s education.

Our Information and Support Line is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10.00 am - 2.00 pm during term time. An answer phone is available at all other times. Tel: 0117 989 7725

Support Groups  - these are held each month alternating between Weston -super-Mare and Portishead. We often arrange for speakers to be at the meetings and further details can be found on our website.

For more details or to contact us please ring the Helpline Team on 0117 989 7725 or go to our website.

Disagreement Resolution

Wessex Mediation provides a Mediation Service specifically for children and young people with Special Educational Needs.

The service provides independent and impartial mediators to help when parents/carers and the education authorities, including schools, cannot agree on how to meet a pupil's special educational needs. It is a process that gives the parties involved in the dispute a way to find a resolution that they can live with. The mediator provides the opportunity to resolve disputes but does not influence the outcome.

Their leaflet Special Educational Needs: Resolving Disagreement (pdf, 107MB) gives more information about the service.
