In North Somerset, our paramount consideration is for
children's welfare.
The Government requires that all agencies concerned with
children, e.g. Education Welfare and other colleagues in the
Children & Young People's Services Directorate and Health, all
work together to protect your child. This requirement has
been further heightened by the Laming Inquiry into Victoria
Climbie's tragic death.
All schools have a designated teacher for child protection whose
responsibility it is to co-ordinate and refer on all cases that
come to the notice of the school. All Education Welfare
Officers (EWOs) give priority to child protection cases.
