We are the statutory agency responsible for ensuring
regular school attendance by children within North
Somerset.
We are required by the Government to consider court proceedings
where there is not a good reason for school absence.
You can help your child attend regularly by making sure the
following:
- Everything is ready for them in the morning so there is no
worry about missing uniform, homework, etc
- You take an interest in your child's school work
- You are positive about the school and attend appointments,
meetings and parents' evenings
- Your child is punctual
- You contact the school on the first day of absence if your
child is ill
- You contact the school if there are any problems
- You don't take holidays during term time
As part of the Government's drive to improve school
attendance and achievement we are also required to conduct truancy
sweeps regularly.
Any school age child who is out of school with or without a
parent/carer will be stopped.
