SureStart provides a Government funded programme
for children aged 0 to four years and their
families.
The programme offers services and resources to improve the
health, opportunities to learn and social and emotional development
of children.
It also works to strengthen families and communities with the
following help and activities on offer:
- Family support
- Speech and language therapy
- Information and advice
- Portage service
- Adult learning and training
- Trips and events
This service is available to all children and their families in
the SureStart local programme area which covers the following
estates across the district:
- Bournville
- Oldmixon
- Coronation
- The Potteries
Referrals can be made by professionals or family members.
The following SureStart groups meet regularly across North
Somerset:
- Baby PEEP & PEEP for 1s - Parent/carer and child groups
making the most of everyday life with babies and one-year-olds
- Young Parents Group - Run in conjunction with the Youth Service
for parents up to the age of 21
- Baby Club - A six- to eight-week rolling programme run by
health visitors providing information for parents/carers and their
babies
- Little Library - A library especially for young children
- Springboard - For children with special needs
- Stay and Play groups - Bring your child and meet other
parents/carers and children
- Ready for Change - For those interested in losing weight or
reducing or stopping smoking
- Rug Rats Young Parents Group - For parents/carers up to the age
of 25
- Take-a-Break - Provides an initial hour of childcare in a
creche while parents/carers join to take part in relaxing and fun
activities. Everyone then joins together for refreshments and
play
- All Together Now - For children and adults with activities such
as making musical instruments, learning new songs, rhymes and
games
- Little Cherubs - A parent-led group for children and their
parents/carers
- Health Visitor Drop-in - Our health visitors are available to
talk with you about behavioural concerns, health advice and much
more
- Just 4 Dads Drop-in - A weekly meeting of dads
