Children's Centres are places where children
under 5 years old and their families can receive seamless
integrated services and information, and where they can access help
from multi-disciplinary teams of
professionals.
A significant number of families with young children
already benefit from good quality integrated services. Children's
Centres enhance these services and extend the benefits to more
families - bringing an integrated approach to service delivery to
areas where it is most needed.
Children's Centres will provide:
- A one-stop information point for children and
parents
- Although primarily aimed at under 5 year olds, they will
provide a range of care and support for 0 -14 year olds and parents
through the Extended
Schools initiative
- Childcare will be available at some of the centres to
enable parents to return to the workplace and therefore increase
their family income and prosperity in the local area
- Access to locally run groups and activities which
encourage parents to become actively
involved
