The transfer from primary to secondary school can
be one of the most difficult times for families and
children.
Finding a suitable secondary school place which suits all your
own and your child's needs is of critical importance.
Therefore, transition advice tries to ensure parents and carers
make fully-informed decisions about which schools to apply for
their child's secondary education.
As part of this Government programme we have Transition Advisors
who can provide you with free, impartial and up-to-date advice in
this area.
This will ensure you receive all the relevant information to
help you make an informed decision about which schools you may
apply for your child's secondary school place.
However, our Transition Advisors will not make decisions for you
and cannot guarantee a child's place at a preferred school.
Our Transition Advisors hold a number of sessions for parents
and carers at various venues throughout the year alongside
one-to-one sessions as appropriate.
At these sessions they will provide you with information on the
following topics:
- School
admissions
policies and over-subscription criteria
- Admissions data
-
Performance
and value-added data
- School Ofsted reports
- School profiles - Including details on their ethos and special
facilities among other subjects
- Special needs and disability policy and provision
- School curriculum - Including details on any school's areas of
speciality
- School term dates and
start and finish times
- Transport details
- Uniform policies
- School charging policies
