A day nursery provides care and education for children
from six weeks old until they start school.
They can be run by ourselves, the community, the
voluntary or independent sectors, privately-run or in places
of work.
Opening times tend to coincide with a standard working day from
8am to 6pm Monday to Friday for 50 weeks of the year and you
can choose to send your child full or part-time.
From the funding term following your child's third birthday
free early education is provided to cover the equivalent of 15
hours per week for 38 weeks of the year.
Day nurseries are registered with and
inspected by Ofsted. The reports are
available on their website.
