The Youth Inclusion and Support Project (YISP) is North
Somerset Youth Offending Team's voluntary intervention
scheme.
YISP works with young people aged 10-18 who are considered to be
at risk of offending. These young people and their families
must be willing to work with the team on a voluntary basis.
We accept referrals from many sources, in some instances other
professionals and in others from the young person and their
family. Referrals go before the multi-agency YISP
Panel. The YISP panel will make the decision about whether or
not the young person is suitable for our project.
Once accepted by the panel the young person will be assessed by
a member of our team, who will then devise an intervention
programme based on the young person's needs. This programme
can include, for example, work around anger management, peer
influences, social skills and victim awareness. We also have
close links with the Substance Advice Service (SAS) who work with
our young people around substance misuse and the YOT parenting
workers who can offer additional support to parents/carers.
Programmes run for six months unless the young person is
considered suitable for a mentor in which case this will be
extended to 12 months.
