Our aim is to reduce offending by young people in
the North Somerset area.
We believe the best way to do this is by making sure young
people understand the harm their behaviour has caused.
We ask them to take responsibility for their actions and attempt to
make amends to their victims and or communities.
Our main responsibility is to prevent offending by children and
young people aged 17 and those who have been the subject of
detention and training orders.
As part of our range of services and support for young offenders,
families and victims we are committed to the following:
- The swift administration of justice so every young person
accused of breaking the law has their case dealt with without
unnecessary delay
- Confronting young offenders with the consequences of their
offending for themselves, their family, victims and community
- Handing out punishment proportionate to the seriousness and
persistence of offending
- Reinforcing the responsibilities of parents
- Helping young offenders to tackle problems associated with
their offending and to develop a sense of personal
responsibility
- Enhancing the life prospects of young people and working to
prevent anti-social and offending behaviour
- Equal access, equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory
practice.
