The Single Regeneration Budget pools together
sources of government funding to target areas of deprivation.
In 2000, the Weston-super-Mare Regeneration
Partnership submitted a successful bid in round six of the Single
Regeneration Budget (SRB) programme.
The Partnership was awarded £2.36m SRB funding for a six-year
scheme which will attract over £10m match funding from other public
and private sources.
The bid area includes the town centre of Weston, the seafront,
and adjacent residential areas to the north and south.
The project aims to:
- Make a real, lasting difference to the lives of those who live
and work within the bid area, taking steps to tackle long-standing
problems and significantly upgrade the physical, social and
economic environment.
- Empower voluntary sector and community groups in order to
enable them to actively participate in setting priorities and also
play a full part in addressing the regeneration needs of the bid
area.
- Stimulate pride through the encouragement of collective effort
and collective ownership, particularly by the various communities
and residents, including ethnic groups, within the bid
area.
