Picnic in Jubilee Park

Date: 10/08/2010

Everyone is invited to come and celebrate in Jubilee Park this weekend!

The park has just been awarded a Green Flag, the first park to gain this award in North Somerset which recognises well-managed, high-quality spaces with excellent recreational facilities.  The Friends of Jubilee Park group will be on hand with information about how they get involved with managing this fantastic park and the opportunities available to other people.

The celebratory event takes place on Sunday 15 August and begins at noon with a skate jam organised by local skaters with music and competitions.

Then at 3pm Tim Pitman will be live on stage in the park with a two-hour set.

Activities from 3pm for children include sports games, face painting and glitter tattoos, PJ the Clown and a marquee with mask making and craft activities.

There will be BBQ and snack van providing hot food and drinks and the local St Barnabus Church will be providing cream teas.  Families are encouraged to bring blankets and enjoy an afternoon of free entertainment!

Jubilee Park is one of four open spaces in North Somerset which have been awarded Green Flags;   Watchhouse Hill Public Open Space in Pill, Uphill Hill and Abbots Pool in Abbots Leigh are the others.

Jubilee Park is managed by us together with the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership. It was designed to create an open space that links the urban areas and the distinctive rural landscape character of the Somerset Levels.

It includes the existing rhynes and appropriate tree planting like willow and black poplar trees.

The refurbishment of the Jubilee Park was funded by the South Ward Neighbourhood Management Partnership, which received £3.7m of government funding in 2007.  £2m was used to fund capital improvements, such as Jubilee Park, helping to create a cleaner, safer and greener environment for the community.

The whole park was designed by landscape architect, Alex Fraser after extensive consultation was undertaken with local residents, regular park visitors, local skaters, BMX riders and North Somerset Council.

It has a new street skate plaza, dirt bike track and unique play equipment. New stone pillars mark the entrances and new benches have been positioned so you can enjoy the unique park landscape.
