Our first-ever Disability Equality Scheme shows how we
are planning to improve our services and promote equality for
Disabled people.
The three-year action plan covers
people with physical and sensory impairments, learning
difficulties, mental health issues and those with
cancer.
The final scheme was adopted in December
2006 following consultation with
Disabled people about their access to our
services and improvements they would like to
see.
Those consulted highlighted difficulties
accessing our buildings, problems with pavements and footpaths and
concerns about the way we communicate as important
issues.
As well as adopting the scheme we have also set up a
steering group of Disabled people to help achieve these
aims.
