Every stillbirth in North Somerset must be registered
with the Registration Service.
The registration should take place within six weeks of a stillbirth
and cannot take place after more than three months has
elapsed.
A stillbirth can be registered by either natural parent if they are
married to each other.
The mother can register alone or with the natural father if they
are not married to each other.
If the stillbirth takes place outside North Somerset the
Registration Service can take the information from the parents
and send it to the Register Office for the district where the event
occurred.
If parents wish to give the stillborn child a name this must be
given at the time of registration. A name cannot be given or
changed at a later stage.
Following registration a certificate can be issued. Paperwork
for the funeral director will also be issued.
An appointment system is in operation at the Register Office and
you should contact the Registration Service to book your visit.
