When a baby is born in North Somerset the parents must
register the birth with our Registration Service within 42
days.
We deal with
the
registration of births and
registration of stillbirths that take place in North
Somerset.
Where the baby's parents are married to each
other, either parent can attend alone to register the
birth.
Where the parents are not married, the father
can usually only be included in the registration if he attends with
the mother.
If a father’s details are not included at registration,
or the natural parents marry each other after a
birth is registered, then these can be dealt with by the process of
re-registration.
Certificates of these events can be issued by our
Registration Service as long as they take place in North
Somerset.
