Seasonal flu is highly infectious and a very common
viral illness.
It is spread through coughs and sneezes and symptoms can make
you feel so exhausted and unwell you just cannot get out of
bed.
NHS North Somerset is urging people to protect themselves now by
having a flu jab, which is free to anyone classed as a higher
risk.
The best time to have the jab is between late September and
early November before a flu epidemic could become full-blown.
Are you eligible for a flu jab?
Flu jabs are recommended if you:
- are 65 or over
- are pregnant
- have a serious medical condition
- live in a residential or nursing home
- are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose
welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
- are a front-line health worker
GP surgeries are currently sending letters to all patients
eligible for the flu jab.
