North Somerset's future captains of industry are
to be celebrated at the 2008 Young Enterprise Company of the Year
competition to be held at the Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare on
Tuesday 25 March from 7.30pm to 10pm.
The three local schools are taking part in the scheme which
promotes business skills and enterprise amongst young people. The
'companies' they have set up are:
- "Backwell School Young Enterprise" from Backwell School
- "Purple Phoenix" from Broadoak Mathematics and Computing
College, Weston-super-Mare
- "MBOO" from Gordano School, Portishead
Students aged 15 to 19 from schools across North Somerset have
been eligible to enter the competition. The students establish and
run a company over a year, electing a board of directors from their
peers, raising capital and marketing and financing a product or
service of their own choice. At the end of the year they present a
report and accounts to their shareholders.
Each team has prepared a report outlining their company's
objectives and achievements, will create a professional trade stand
'showcasing' their company, will deliver a presentation to the
judges and will be interviewed on their progress.
Founded in 1963, UK registered Charity Young Enterprise South
West runs a range of Business and Enterprise Education Programmes
for Young People across the South West region.
The competition is the culmination of a year in business for
those young people from North Somerset who have taken part in the
Young Enterprise Company Programmes.
The winners from the North Somerset Company of the Year
Competition will go on to compete against teams from all across the
West of England region the West of England County finals to be held
on the 14 May in Bristol.

regeneration team. |
