Trading Standards

Our Trading Standards service aims to promote a fair, safe and equitable trading environment for both consumers and businesses across North Somerset.

As a law enforcement agency it is responsible for enforcing more than 70 Acts of Parliament and more than 1,300 associated UK and European regulations which have an impact on practically all aspects of modern life.

Whether you are buying a loaf, a litre of petrol or jetting off on holiday we are responsible for making sure many of the transactions you make are carried out within the law.

We specifically deal with all of the following issues:

  • Consumer credit
  • Consumer goods safety
  • Counterfeit goods and hallmarking
  • Farm Animal health, feedstuffs and pet foods
  • Farm animal movements, identification, records and disease control
  • Fireworks and explosives - licensing, sales and storage
  • Food composition and labelling
  • Holidays and timeshare
  • Misleading advertisements and misdescribed goods or services
  • Petroleum licensing
  • Price marking
  • Rogue traders
