A man from Sidcot has pleaded guilty to a number of
offences relating to his failure to dispose of animal
carcases.
Following a complaint in September 2010 trading standards
officers visited land in Sidcot where nine cattle carcases were
found which had not been disposed of by the owner in 'a correct and
timely manner'.
The man concerned, Joseph Mark Beach, from Queensmead Farm,
Bristol Rd in Sidcot also failed to comply with an instruction to
dispose of the carcases, meaning trading standards arranged for
their removal by an approved contractor.
On 31 March, Joseph Beach appeared at North Somerset
Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty. He was given a community
punishment requiring him to be electronically tagged and observe a
daily curfew between the hours of 8pm to 5am for the next eight
weeks. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs, which included
the costs incurred in removing the carcases.
Derek Wilkins, our Trading Standards Manager, said: "The
main aim of the Animal By-Products Regulations 2005 is to prevent
animal by-products presenting a risk to animal or public health
through the transmission of disease. To achieve this, there are
strict rules which control the correct disposal of carcases. This
man failed to carry out his obligations. We will continue to
investigate cases and take enforcement action where
appropriate."
