Rogue trader warning

Date: 06/04/2010

Our Trading Standards officers are urging residents to think twice before agreeing to home improvements from doorstep callers.

"We are aware of companies selling wall coatings and other building work in the area at very high prices," commented Helen Heskins, Senior Enforcement Officer with Trading Standards.

"Consumers are often pressurised into making a decision on these products, on the spot, without shopping around. We are particularly aware of traders touting for business over the Easter weekend in the Weston area.

"Don’t be tempted to jump into a credit deal to cover the expense without being aware of the considerable cost you will be paying over many years.

"If you have been approached by this sales method, ring Trading Standards for advice as you may have rights to cancel your agreement. We strongly recommend that you obtain several quotations before employing a trader and where possible ask friends and family for a recommendation."
