Alcohol and entertainment

We are responsible for licensing the sale and supply of alcohol and various public entertainment activities across North Somerset.

This includes gambling licences and permits for example, gaming machine permits and lottery licences.

We have taken over the responsibility for alcohol from the Magistrates under the Licensing Act 2003 which came into force in November 2005.

This legislation merged the six old licensing regimes into one system meaning only a single Premises Licence is needed to supply alcohol, entertainment, late night refreshments or any combination of these activities.

However, those wishing to sell alcohol will also require a Personal Licence to do so.

In terms of entertainment this covers live and recorded music, theatre, film and indoor sporting events.

We are also responsible for providing various other entertainment licences including chaperone licences and child stage performance licences.
