Our responsibilities

We make sure the Health and Safety at Work Act is enforced across North Somerset.

We do this by regularly inspecting premises and investigating complaints and accidents which is a responsibility we share with the Health and Safety Executive HSE. 

The main areas of our work include:

• pro-active inspections of businesses
• dealing with complaints and enquiries
• accident investigations 
• licence inspections for skin piercing, tattooing, acupuncture, electrolysis and ear-piercing, outdoor event related work
• promotion and education - including lectures and guidance booklets
• joint initiatives with the HSE
• animal welfare work
