People can find it difficult to source local food and
we know that growers and producers can find it difficult to market
their produce locally.
In 2007 we undertook a comprehensive survey to identify what
food is produced locally and the potential for supplying directly
to local markets.
Recommendations from the
survey are to:
- Keep an up to date directory and database of
producers willing to supply local
markets
- To identify ways to support and develop networking
between interested producers and local markets
- Bring local orchards back into
production
- Provide feedback from the
survey
This survey builds on and compliments work already carried
out by by
South
Gloucestershire Council with the aim of improving local
markets.
The survey was funded through a grant from the
Rural Enterprise Gateway (REG) and on behalf of the local food
partnership, A Taste of North Somerset.
