We make sure all food businesses are compliant
with the current legal requirements and supply food that
is safe to eat.
You can find out how well a food business did on its last
inspection using the
food hygiene
rating scheme from the Food Standards Agency.
This shows the hygiene rating information for
food premises in North Somerset, and you can:
- see a list of all assessed food premises in North
Somerset
- search on a particular category or the name of a food
premises
- click on 'search your area' to see a map of UK,
then click on the south west to see the current list of
local authorities that have published their ratings
Our food safety officers carry out regular checks on all food
premises to make sure that anyone operating a business that
handles food in any way is being compliant with legislation,
good practice and safe operating procedures to protect the
public.
Under the food hygiene rating scheme the ratings are
allocated to food premises at the time of their routine inspection
for food hygiene and safety requirements, and each food outlet is
provided with a window sticker and certificate to display.
The hygiene ratings range from:
5 very good
4 good
3 generally satisfactory
2 improvement necessary
1 major improvement necessary
0 urgent improvement necessary
Exempt These premises are not rated as they
fall outside the remit of the scheme. (for example it is a low risk
food operation or food handling/preparation was not going on at the
time of the inspection.)
Excluded Premises that do not supply food to the
final consumer.
Sensitive Premises where the details include the
home address of the food business operator.
The ratings show what standards were seen by the
officer at the last inspection and are a snapshot at
that time. This could mean the rating may
not reflect what you see when you visit a business
at a different time. If you have any concerns please contact
our Food and
Safety team.
Premises that are rated as zero get a series of
revisits and actions designed to make sure the operator
sorts out the problems and works toward getting the business
compliant again as soon as possible. The premises will then be
re-assessed in approximately six months to make sure the
improved standards are being maintained.
The scheme should also encourage businesses to see the
value and benefit from making inspection information more
accessible to the public as a way for them to keep existing custom
and gain new customers.
The food hygiene rating scheme is a national scheme run by the
Food Standards Agency. The
aim is to have every local authority involved and achieve
a single consistent hygiene standard throughout the country.
