One of the biggest barriers we all face when
trying something new, or in which we were not successful first time
round, is overcoming our inner voice which says - "You can't do
it!"
To help learners through this barrier it's always very useful to
have someone you know who is says - "Yes you can do
it! I was frightened too but I did it. Let's do it together."
This is the role of a Learning Champion or
mentor.
A central part of the Community Learning project is to
identify and recruit more of these wonderful people and their
can-do attitude.
If you've passed your driving test, set up a crèche, lost some
weight, helped someone learn to swim or achieved your own goals you
may have the right qualities to become a Learning Champion.
You don't need to have done any learning with
our team in North Somerset to become one our champions.
Training is available and once we've taken you on you'd be
working as part of a team, probably in the neighbourhood where you
live. |
